You have opened a new brewery in town, you have built your social media platforms, and have several posts announcing your grand opening. The day comes and your place is only about halfway full on opening day Friday. You paid for social media ads to run for weeks to make sure you were at full capacity and still didn't reach as many people as you could have. But how do you reach more people? keep in mind all people looking for places like this one use the internet and Google searches in particular to find where to go eat and have a drink. To show up on people's search engine searches this business and others like it have to build up their SEO (Search Engine Optimization) and one way to do that is by building backlinks.

Backlinks are links from other websites that point to your website. They are important for SEO (search engine optimization) because they signal to search engines that your website is relevant and authoritative. The more backlinks you have, the higher your website will rank in search results for keywords related to your niche.

But how do you get backlinks? Here are some tips and strategies that you can use to attract more links to your website:

  • Create valuable content. The most effective way to get backlinks is to create content that is useful, informative, engaging, and original. Content that provides value to your audience will naturally attract links from other websites that want to share your information with their readers. For example, you can create blog posts, videos, podcasts, infographics, or guides about topics related to brewing, beer styles, beer history, beer culture, beer events, beer recipes, or anything else that your potential customers might be interested in. You can also showcase your products, services, or stories on your website to demonstrate your expertise and passion for your craft.

  • Promote your content. Creating valuable content is not enough if no one knows about it. You need to promote your content to reach a wider audience and increase the chances of getting backlinks. You can use social media platforms, email newsletters, online forums, or other channels to share your content with relevant communities and beer-influencers (lol..Yes, they exist folks. This is a backlink by the way). You can also reach out to other websites or blogs in your niche (like ours) and offer them to guest post on their site or feature your content on their site. This way, you can expose your website to a new audience and get a backlink from a reputable source.

  • Build relationships. Another way to get backlinks is to build relationships with other websites or people in your industry or niche. Here in San Diego if you want to find out about local brewery events check out and join the San Diego Brewers Guild. Notice the link? That is a backlink as well. You can network with other brewers, pub owners, beer enthusiasts, bloggers, journalists, or experts in your field and establish yourself as a credible and trustworthy source of information. You can also participate in online discussions, comment on other blogs or articles, answer questions on platforms like SD Brewers Guild, Quora, LinkedIn, Twitter (not calling it X), or Reddit, or join online groups or associations related to your niche. By being active and helpful in your community, you can build rapport and reputation with others and earn their respect and trust. This can lead to more opportunities for collaboration and link exchange.

  • Leverage local SEO. As a local business owner, you can also take advantage of local SEO to get more backlinks and visibility for your website. Local SEO is the process of optimizing your website for local search queries and local customers. You can do this by creating a Google My Business profile, claiming and verifying your business listings on online directories like Yelp or TripAdvisor, adding local keywords and geo-tags to your website content and meta tags, collecting and displaying customer reviews and ratings on your website or social media pages, or creating local landing pages for different locations or areas that you serve. By doing these things, you can improve your local ranking and reputation and attract more local links from other websites that cater to the same audience as you.

These are some of the ways that you can build backlinks for your new brewery website. It takes time but by following these strategies, you can increase the authority and popularity of your website and drive more foot traffic and customers to your business.
